Give the gift of voice

Over 40 years ago George Atkins, a former CBC Farm Radio broadcaster, founded Farm Radio International when he realized that there was a need for practical, low-cost solutions that would be directly useful for rural small-holder farmers in Africa. Radio was chosen because it is a popular, simple, relatively inexpensive medium, reaching millions of African farmers, many of whom are illiterate.

Today, Farm Radio International’s work with African radio stations to produce and broadcast programs, connects millions of small-scale farmers with life-changing information about everything from soil conservation to growing vitamin-rich sweet potato to protecting sources of drinking water.  It is a practical and cost-effective way to serve farmers throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
